Nowadays, you'll often find me enjoying OSRS gold and Half-Life or playing Team Fortress 2 - games that come in force leave their marks and disappear quickly. It's a pleasure to play games I enjoy and go on to forget about it quickly, and not having to worry about how many pieces of wood I have in my inventory or the location I'm likely to fish during the next session.
In all honesty, I do miss part of the never-ending grind as well as longer-term involvement (and the pain) that comes with RuneScape. In its third edition in the form of 'RuneScape 3' (from 2013) with added content and a graphical revamp, there's a hint of hope that maybe I'll return to it to see how it's getting on, just like I would with an old friend.
Publisher Jagex announced earlier this year that RuneScape will release early access on mobile sometime in the summer. From today, everyone can play RuneScape, the longest-running MMORPG across iOS and Android.
RuneScape is completely free, though subscribers get access to more tasks, abilities and things. It is possible to test the membership free of charge with a seven-day trial. The mobile apps support cross-play as well as cross-progression with PC This means that you can jump between platforms and carry on where you were when you quit.
It's important to note that this version isn't cheap OSRS GP, a version based on a build from 2007. It's available both iOS and Android since 2018. This is the full-blown RuneScape that Jagex is constantly upgrading for the past 20 years.
